Premier League Predictions and Team News 5 - 6 Oct 2013

Manchester City v Everton – Saturday 5 October 2013 – 1245KO

Pellegrini is only 6 matches into his reign at City and he’s already discovered the highs and lows of the Premier League! It was only last week I was talking about how rampant they were when smashing United, but now it has turned full circle and they are under pressure after throwing away 3 points with some schoolboy defending against Villa last week and following that up with a real boys against men show in midweek against Bayern.

Everton remain the EPLs only unbeaten side this season, and on their first half showing against Newcastle it was easy to see why, they passed, they moved and above all they worked hard and had the match sewn up by half-time. However Gareth Barry will miss this game as he is still is facing his parent club, and this could prove critical in the midfield.

Premier League Team News: City are without Toffees old boy Rodwell and defender Demichelis, but Jovetic should recover from a knock to start. As mentioned above Gareth Barry is eligible, Darron Gibson may replace him but he is also an injury doubt.
Premier League Betting Prediction: 1-0

Cardiff v Newcastle – Saturday 5 October 2013 – 1500KO

A last minute plus goal gave Cardiff their first ever Premier League away win last weekend against Fulham and they will go into this encounter looking to heap pressure on Toon boss Alan Pardew. There have been whispers this week that his position is under threat and that he even offered to resign after last Monday’s performance. One thing is for sure, life’s never dull at Newcastle (barring the odd 90 minutes on a Saturday!)

Premier League Team News: Cardiff have a full squad to choose from baring the injured Cornelius, whilst Newcastle, who are chasing a 7th consecutive win over Cardiff, could feature fit again pair Taylor and Gutierrez.
Premier League Betting Prediction: 0-0
Sky Sports Fantasy Star Man: Tim Krul

Fulham v Stoke– Saturday 5 October 2013 – 1500Ko

Another manager who seems to be getting a bit of a vocal bashing from his own fans at present is Martin Jol, and are now without a win since the opening weekend of the season.

Stoke have also fallen away from the pack in the last three fixtures since they dominated West Ham away from home, and with Mark Hughes returning to a club he walked out on after only a season, he will have targeted this as a winnable game.

Premier League Team News: Fulham will be without Scott Parker who limped off after injuring a calf last weekend, whilst Stekelenburg still isn’t fit. Stoke only have a doubt over Jon Walters who suffered a slight groin injury against Norwich last Sunday.

Premier League Betting Prediction: 1-1
Sky Sports Fantasy Star Man: Brede Hangeland

Hull City v Aston Villa – Saturday 5 October 2013 – 1500KO

Hull City are currently riding high in the table and sitting in a lofty 8th position after beating West Ham last week, and they will be hoping to do a job on another team in Claret and Blue this time out, but they will have to do it without Robbie Brady who has netted twice from the spot in consecutive weeks.

Paul Lambert should take a lot of credit for how Villa’s season has gone so far, they’ve had a tough start, facing already Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and City in their opening 6 fixtures and still sit a healthy 9th in the table. He will be calling for some consistency though as it is all well and good beating Arsenal and City, but these are the fixtures Villa really need to be getting something from if they want to stay well clear of last season’s problems.

Premier League Team News: George Boyd is on standby to replace the injured Robbie Brady for Hull who are still without the injured Chester and Koren. Villa should welcome back Gabby Agbonlahor but Benteke won’t be fit this side of the international break.
Premier League Betting Prediction: 1-1
Sky Sports Fantasy Star Man: Andreas Weimann

Liverpool v Crystal Palace – Saturday 5 October 2013 – 1500KO

Things really don’t get easier for Palace and after the form Liverpool’s front two showed against Sunderland last Sunday there are probably a few fans in South London having nightmares of the 9-0 drubbing they suffered at Anfield in 1989.

It’s good to see the 3-5-2 tactic coming back into vogue these days and with Liverpools recent form you can see why, with most teams only playing one up front in the league, you still have spare men at the back, not get outnumbered in midfield and still have the attacking threat that two men carry. Liverpool also have good delivery from the full backs in their system.

Premier League Team News: Liverpool will be without Lucas who amazingly has already amassed 5 yellow cards this season, with Jordan Henderson expected to replace him in the centre and Sterling on the right. Ian Holloway has played his cards close to his chest this weekend and mentioned he will be missing two players but refused to comment any further.
Premier League Betting Prediction: 2-0

Sunderland v Manchester United – Saturday 5 October 2013 – 1730KO

Is this the game you want if you are a Sunderland fan? On one hand you would always like to play United when they are down on form, but do they still possess that instinct that allow them to bounce back after a poor run?

I stayed last weekend in the Trafford area of Manchester and spoke to a few United fans first hand, and on the whole seemed to be pretty reasonable about their teams poor start to the season, and thought this may happen in the initial life after Alex games, but did say there was absolutely no positives to take out of the West Brom defeat.

With little pressure on caretaker boss Kevin Ball, will he take a leaf out of The Baggies book and attack United from the off?

Premier League Team News: The Makems are still without Steve Fletcher to lead the line after dislocating his shoulder, however Borini will be back in the squad after being ineligible last weekend. Wes brown won’t be fit to face his former side. United should welcome back Wayne Rooney who missed the midweek European trip with a slight injury. This was his 4th different injury of the season!
Premier League Betting Prediction: 1-3

Norwich v Chelsea – Sunday 6 October 2013 – 1330Ko

Norwich certainly surprised me last week, when they travelled to The Potteries and came away with all three points. Hopefully this will have released a bit of the pressure from Chris Hughton and the players can start performing with a little more attacking freedom.

We saw a few different versions of Chelsea during their fixture against Spurs last week, they were controlling possession, but without creating a great deal until they went behind, but Mourinho made the bold sub at half time he is famed for and the introduction of Mata was instrumental in what was a very good second half performance. We also saw how difficult they can be to beat when they went down to 10 men.

Premier League Team News: Garrido and Redmond have both trained this week for Norwich and should be fit but the outlook isn’t as positive for Bassong who is suffering from a hamstring strain. Torres misses this game through suspension, but would have been ruled out through injury anyway. Hazard is also struggling to be fit.
Premier League Betting Prediction: 1-2
Sky Sports Fantasy Star Man: Juan Mata

Southampton v Swansea – Sunday 6 October 2013 – 1330KO

Last time Swansea played a European game on a Thursday I questioned whether they would have both the legs and the mental ability to come back and do a job in the following game and they proved me wrong! However, a trip to St Mary’s is certainly a tougher fixture than one against Palace and the Saints are looking very solid with three consecutive clean sheets which has left their fans dreaming of Europe even at this early stage of the season. And no I’m not talking about the Red Funnel ferry to the Isle of Wight.

Premier League Team News: Every week their seems to be an illness at St Mary’s and this week it is Luke Shaw who has the lurgy! Maybe Channel 4 should revive Kim and Aggie to do a deep clean of the training ground. The Swans are still missing Ashley Williams.

Premier League Betting Prediction: 2-1
Sky Sports Fantasy Star Man: Adam Lallana

Tottenham v West Ham– Sunday 6 October 2013 – 1600Ko

The result of this game will be pretty dependant on for how long West Ham can keep Spurs at bay. If Spurs score early the floodgates could open, whilst if The Hammers keep it tight they will be hoping to nick it from a late set piece.  Defensively both sides have been excellent so far this season, and Spurs will be able to be more adventurous than they were against Chelsea last week when Saldado was isolated for long periods. West Ham are poor on their travels and have only scored in two fixtures so far.

Also if anyone knows a pub showing this is the North Herts area, you know how to contact me!!

Premier League Team News: Danny Rose will again miss out for Spurs with a toe injury and Kaboul won’t feature after his nightmare run of injuries continues after getting injured on Europa Cup duty. West Ham have their attacking options boosted by the return of Joey Cole after a 5 week lay-off and scoring on the opening weekend.
Premier League Betting Prediction: 3-0
Sky Sports Fantasy Star Man: Christian Eriksen

West Bromwich Albion v Arsenal – Sunday 6 October 2013 – 1600Ko

A lot of press will tell you The Baggies win last week was down to David Moyes and an impending downfall at Old Trafford, but I saw a side who kept the ball well in possession, attacked with purpose and made the most of their chances. I imagine they will be looking to make the loan signing of Morgan Amalfitano permanent after some impressive displays.

Well, what can we say about Arsenal except keep it going, their football and movement has set the bar for standards so far this season and the almost accidental partnership of Flamini and Ramsey in midfield has been inspired.

Premier League Team News: The Baggies have a bit of a crisis up front with Long, Anelka and Anichebe all out and the news that Sinclair won’t be fit until after the international break. Arsenal will be missing Sagna whose versatility has proved important so far this season. He will be replaced at full-back by England U21 Jenkinson.
Premier League Betting Prediction: 1-1
Sky Sports Fantasy Star Man: Saido Berahino

That’s my round-up for another week and the good news is I get a break from watching press conferences on Sky Sports News next weekend as it’s time for England’s all important World Cup qualifiers. Any bets on how many players pull out after this weekend’s fixtures?
